Dear Salem Families,

I am beyond thrilled to join the Salem family and serve as an Assistant Principal!

I am a Murfreesboro native and have attended Campus School, Central Middle, and Oakland High here in town. I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and my Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision. Before coming to Salem, I previously taught second grade for seven years at Black Fox Elementary.

Over the years, I have earned my gifted employment standard and have been apart of numerous committees and leadership roles for Murfreesboro City Schools. I have had the honor of serving on the Tennessee Teacher Advisory Committee as well as the Murfreesboro City Schools Teachers Advisory Committee.

My wonderful Husband and I have a lovely two-year-old daughter that is the absolute light of our lives! As a family we enjoy shopping, trying new restaurants, and spending quality time together.

I am passionate about student growth and building creative thinkers that have a love for learning! I am just as passionate about creating an environment where teachers know they are valued and supported!

I look forward to getting to know you and building meaningful relationships with students, parents, and the entire Saints’ community!

All the best,
Raeven

Charlotte James

It is an honor and privilege to serve as one of the assistant principals at Salem Elementary.  I have been in education for 28 years. My first thirteen years were spent in Virginia teaching second, third, fourth, and fifth grade.  I also had the opportunity to serve as an assistant principal at Dominion Trail Elementary School in Ashburn, Virginia. My next fifteen years brought me to Murfreesboro to be closer to my sister and her family.  I did an interim fifth grade position at John Pittard and then taught fourth grade at Campus School for two years.  For the last thirteen years, I have been at Discovery School.  At Discovery, I taught second and fifth grade and most recently I was the school’s academic coach.

I graduated from The University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia and later earned my master’s degree in school administration and supervision from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.  I have two daughters, Caroline who works and lives in Birmingham, Alabama with her adorable golden doodle named Annie and Catherine Ann who is a college student working towards a nursing degree.

My passion for effective instruction and ensuring academic success and access for all students continues to drive my decisions as an educator.  It is my goal to help provide a safe, challenging and engaging learning environment for all students and teachers to thrive and feel success.

I am passionate about building relationships with our families, staff and stakeholders.  I look forward to working alongside the Salem families to continue to engage, excel and empower our students to be the best that they can be.  Feel free to reach out to me.
